Pucker up: Christian Louboutin launches lipstick collection inspired by the Middle East
Christian Louboutin further cements his (red-soled) step into beauty, expanding his offering from nail polishes to lipsticks.
Earlier this week,Christian Louboutin held a secret event in Dubai to discover its beautiful new beauty collection – its first ever lipstick range.
For this new, second foray into the world of beauty, Louboutin was inspired by the Ancient Egyptian Queen Nefertiti, who was not traditionally beautiful but elevated her attraction with make-up and accessories. Nefertiti used kohl and red dye to paint her lips, and disguised her small stature with an exaggerated head piece. This power to transform is what drew Louboutin to beauty and the world of cosmetics – first nail polishes inspired by his iconic red soles, and now lipsticks...
"This precious object will be coveted by others. Suggesting a purse full of rare and precious stones that could have been discovered in Ali Baba's cave, it will arouse lust and desire... and is made to be stolen." The designer said of his unique new lipsticks, which look more like a piece of jewellery than a piece of makeup (see below).
In fact, each lipstick comes complete with a small ring fastened to the top so that a piece of silk or a gold chain can be threaded through and it can serve as an accessory for the owner – who can wear it around her neck, her wrist or fasten it to her bag.
“WHEN A WOMAN APPLIES LIPSTICK OR PUTS ON A PAIR OF HEELS, IN BOTH CASES YOU NOTICE SOMEONE TAKING CHARGE OF HERSELF. BY DOING EITHER ACTION, SHE MASTERS WHAT PEOPLE THINK OF HER.” – CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN
Launching September 1 this year, the lipsticks come in two colours – Rouge Louboutin and the Lip Colour range. The colours are encased in striking gold containers, whilst the signature reds – or rouges – are surrounding in an opulent black, silver and gold design (pictured above). Regionally, the lineup will be exclusively available at Level Shoe District in the UAE.
"Capturing the ornate aesthetics of Middle Eastern antiquities and the Art Deco movement, this crown rests above a solid black body holding the emblematic red within." Says Louboutin of the signature Rouge lipsticks, which come in three variations – Silky Satin, Velvet Matte and Sheer Voile.
