Paris Fashion Week: Balenciaga Fall Winter 2015/2016
Yesterday Alexander Wang hosted one of Paris Fashion Week's most anticipated shows – the Balenciaga Fall /Winter 2015 showcase in the French fashion capital....
"I want to approach design [with] something much more subversive and irreverent [in] looking at these classical notions,” Alexander Wang noted during a preview. “I try to respect the heritage and the history, but also add a twist.”
The twist was evident in the heavy fabrics tweeds, windowpanes, bouclés done in the same impressive architectural curvatures synonymous with the iconic house's founder Cristóbal Balenciaga. The jewellery drew its inspiration from the house's archives, with Wang breathing new life into the pretty pieces and piling them on strong. Wrap skirts were peppered with floral brooches, and a coat was fastened with a opulent diamanté dagger.
Ladylike silhouettes were juxtaposed with rawness, such as aggressive flat boots, which were paired with career-girl shirt-and-skirt numbers, and tight, flattering off the shoulder dresses which were cinched at the waist with thick black panels splattered with embellishment.
