There's little doubt that the influence of one Christian Louboutin has been huge on both the fashion industry, and further afield. However now, the brand has expanded its ever growing empire and dipped its toe – so to speak – into the beauty arena, with a collection of luxury nail polishes beginning with the American market, priced at $50 each.
It's ironic to think that back in 1992, when looking at a particular design from his third signature shoe collection, Louboutin was disappointed that the real thing wasn't as, "colourful and compelling" as his original sketch, especially the sole. And so the legend goes that he snatched a jar of nail varnish from an assistant (said to have been the Revlon shade, 'Revlon Red'), and his famous stamp was born.

Christian Louboutin Enters the Beauty

Rouge Louboutin is the first Christian Louboutin Beauté product – a joint venture between Christian Louboutin's fashion company and New York-based Batallure Beauty – and is scheduled to go on sale today in a US concession shop on the eighth floor at the Saks Fifth Avenue in New York – plus of course the 15 standalone Louboutin boutiques in America. The brand has also revamped its digital platform to support the it's debut beauty line.
The flagship Saks store carrying the single red shade on sale today will dedicate five display windows to the launch, with each filled with a depiction of an imaginary city, dubbed 'Loubiville' – which also features in an online video by David Lynch offering users the chance to shop different pairs of shoes based on their polish selection) with a smattering of architectural shapes – perhaps hints of future bottle shapes to come?

The rest of the collection will roll out to all Saks stores, Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, Nordstrom and select Sephora stores on August 6.
